WiFi Data Calibration Process

Basking offers an Accuracy Report for newly connected sites, comparing new and existing data sources to ensure trust, transparency, and reliability for decision-making.

What is it?

The calibration process is typically executed when a site is first connected to Basking. This process involves comparing Basking data to other data sources to build trust and transparency with our customers. The goal is to ensure users have confidence in the data accuracy when making important decisions.

How is it done?

Typically, our customer success team will reach out to users detailing the requirements for calibration. The following is required for Basking to perform the calibration process for a site:

  1. At least 2-3 weeks of data for the site using badge, sensor, or manual counts.
  2. Responses to questions about WiFi policy, which are shared by the customer success team directly with the users.

Outcome: Accuracy Reports

The outcome of the calibration process is an Accuracy Report in Excel format comparing Basking data against other data sources, such as badge or sensor data, for a selected time period. The accuracy metrics include:

  • MAE (Mean Average Error): This is the average difference between Basking and other data sources for the selected time period. It helps understand the difference between the two sources on a daily average.
  • Average Accuracy Rate vs Workstation Capacity: This metric measures the data accuracy on average with respect to workstation capacity. It is calculated by comparing the absolute difference between the data sources, dividing by the workstation capacity, subtracting this value from one, and expressing it as a percentage.
  • Average Accuracy Rate vs Total Capacity: This metric is similar to the “Average Accuracy rate vs Workstation Capacity” but considers the total seating capacity.

* It is important to note that there is a margin of error associated with every occupancy data source, including manual counts. The goal is to ensure that the difference between the two sources isn’t wide and that they point in the same direction, allowing users to confidently make decisions related to real estate or work policies.

Benefits of Calibration:

  • Increased Trust: Building confidence in data accuracy ensures better decision-making.
  • Transparency: Clear comparisons with other data sources provide transparency for stakeholders.
  • Informed Decisions: Accurate data helps in making well-informed decisions regarding space utilization and policy adjustments.

Who can use the Accuracy Reports?

Any user within the organization can use this information to ensure the site’s data accuracy is good and to start making informed decisions based on that information.
